Phantom Galleries is pleased to present a special collection of limited-edition prints by abstract artist Jemal Diamond. The collection, created solely on the Apple iPad, explores at the cross-section of digital design and traditional mark making to create new, contradictory, layered, abstracted figures and landscapes. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Jemal takes a playful, improvisational approach that aims to keep the viewer’s joyful engagement while introducing a wide-range of darker graphic indicators and visual cues.

For this exclusive collection, each limited-edition fine art print, hand-signed by Jemal, is beautifully mounted in a black satin wood frame, printed on Pura Fine Art velvet paper, 4-ply conservation rag mat, and acrylic non-glare glazing.

Juried by Katherine Harmon, author of one of my favorite books “You Are Here, Personal Geographies and Other Maps of the Imagination”!

“There has always been a mapping impulse in human consciousness. The map is the quintessential tool for charting human progress, collective knowledge, and personal experience. Maps establish boundaries and meanings. They are a source of discovery and use a specific language. They also provide windows into the unknown.”

“Artists chart singular perceptions rather than assert any collective truth.” (Katharine Harmon) The artist map conveys personal territory, calling out to viewers, “I Am Here”. Art maps can be used for exploration of the personal, the political, or as a tool to investigate the experimental. Mapping as Source focuses on the many ways artists use or create maps for personal expression.”

About the Art-in-Neighborhoods Program:
ArtSpan’s Art-in-Neighborhoods program serves the city of San Francisco by connecting communities with local artists while activating spaces with vibrant, locally-made artwork. ArtSpan partners with local businesses and building owners to bring art exhibitions and art events to businesses, dormant storefronts, and empty spaces for lease that seek artwork for their blank walls. Local artists who are ArtSpan members are given the opportunity to display, promote, and sell their artwork in these diverse venues. All aspects of the program allow otherwise unused walls, spaces, or properties to become creative arenas for celebrating local arts.

Introspection APÉRO Catalogue July 2017

Thrilled to be included in Apéro Gallery’s Fine Art Collection 2017 “Introspection.”

Curator Review by E.E. Jacks: “Phonographs and King Dragons” – Title by Lisa A.

“This charismatic, and illustrative work is by artist Jemal Diamond. Diamond has connected a very comprehensible series of lines, where the definable subjects appear to slowly manifest themselves to the viewer. This minimalist metamorphosis is wonderfully imaginative, and the playful, yet mature arrangement of elements in this piece, applaud the concise title.” – E.E. Jacks
